I know that a very important aspect of being in the business of making and selling is taking great pictures of the stuff you are trying to showcase. Its one more apect of the process that is time consuming and also can be expensive depending on which route one takes. Well, here at Sofs Designs we have seen an evolution in these aspects. At first we started with little 'extra' time and a small budget so all our photos where taken with a good old iphone 4 ! (this was about 6 years ago so the iphone 4 was old but not as old as it is today!) Here's an example of the result: Depending on the natural lighting available and the time to wait for the appropriate natural light, the pictures as you can see ended up quite grainy and the tint somewhat 'yellow'. As I progressed with making more things, I still used an iphone but upgraded to an SE iphone. A better camera but still not 'professional' looking images. The thing with using an iphone is that its so simple and you can use your pictures on the same device for uploading to social media and sellers plateform like the etsy seller app. Its so quick and convinient BUT the images are not necessarly the best. Here's an example: It definitly looked better. Notice the fact that we take many of the pictures outside allows for more natural light. These pictures however are pretty small in terms of pixels and resolution so they look ok when previewed on a small scale like an app but start looking quite grainy fast when printed or viewed on a bigger screen.
Just recently, (I am so thrilled!), I purchased a DSLR Canon 80d and althougth I have still lots to learn, the images I will have will start to look more professional and beautiful. Here's an example (and this stays beautiful even when on large prints):

It started out as usual.. an idea, an inspiration and my companion Toby the fat cat helping me with my first prototype. But then the minute Ralph the T-Rex got his very sharp teeth, he got more and more interested in my companion... ok ok maybe it was not quite so dramatic kids.. Toby is doing fine but I am not taking any chances so I hung that T-Rex on my wall where he can't get anywhere near Toby.. I mean, look at those fangs! Although peculiar, I didn't think anything of it really...I mean after all what can a paper T-Rex half built can really do to my sweet Toby the fat cat? Well, I should have been more careful because the next morning this is what I found !!
Yep,...little did you know that alongside mr Lion's head paper model, a bum paper model was also in the works!
I am actually glad I did not mention that it was coming since it took a little while for it to be finally completed. However, now that IT IS completed, it is ready for your making pleasures. Mr Lion's Head (A favorite that has been purchased by many! thank you): |
